Amelia Earhart was the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic ocean. She was also the first woman to recieve the United States Distinguished Flying Cross. On July 24, we celebrate her birth.
On her second attempt to fly around the globe, Earhart and her navigator Fred Noonan disappeared over the Pacific on their way to Howland Island.
