KarBel Multimedia volunteers for career day at local middle school
Belinda and Karsten Ivey of KarBel Multimedia gives four separate presentations to the 8th grade students at CC Griffin Middle School in Concord, North Carolina. Our goal was to expose the kids to what we do, who we are, and how we got started in graphic design. We were able to answer questions and offer advice.
Talking to students at career days is something we try to do as much as possible. We think back to our grade school career days growing up. Most of the career people who showed up were doctors, lawyers, nurses, or policemen, which is great. But, we never saw anyone from the arts. We now try to fill that void by offering students who may be interested in art a look at what’s possible. Our ultimate goal is letting students know that art doesn’t have to be just a hobby. You can actually make a living doing this.
It’s difficult to know who you may inspire at these career days, as most of the students you can’t really tell if they’re interested or not. But, hopefully we were able to inspire someone to think about following our career path or create their own. Good luck to all of the students in their future endeavors!
The staff was great! They treated us very well and was very supportive and had a great time. We’re looking forward doing this again some day soon.
