KarBel Multimedia worked with the Miami Foundation on their Our Miami project funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and Gallup. Residents of metropolitan Miami were surveyed in order to explore and understand the qualities that influence community attachment. Findings for Miami were based on perceptions around ten qualities, or “drivers,” of community life:
• Aesthetics
• Arts & Culture
• Basic Services
• Community Involvement
• Economy
• Education
• Leadership
• Openness
• Safety
• Social Capital
To evaluate these drivers and public perceptions of them in greater depth, the Miami Foundation partnered with the Metropolitan Center at Florida International University.
The Miami Foundation and its partners used this data to explore how Miami can make improvements that will nurture our sense of community and advance the quality of life for all area residents.
THE OBJECTIVE
To create a visual way to show the results of the survey.
THE SOLUTION
The idea was to create an infographic for each quality or “driver,” outlined in the survey. We used simple illustrations, icons, and large display numbers to highlight key information. We also illustrated landmarks from around Miami and a road element to visually tie the data to the city and all of the infographics together. The colors used matched the branding for the project and created a cohesive and visually compelling project.
To promote the project, we designed a double truck newspaper ad to publish in Miami Herald. We combined key stats and elements from each infographic to tease each driver.
