THE PROJECT
KarBel Multimedia worked with CSR Communications and Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation to create a myriad of designs for their 19th Annual Dinner Event.
THE OBJECTIVE
Sodexo wanted a bold and fresh look for their collateral designs using their images, and within a very limited timeline.
THE SOLUTION
The project started with a dinner invitation design. After several mockups, the chosen design used sharp, bold geometric shapes with modern typeface. Color was limited, so the image and the hashtag would be primary focal points. We created web banners based on the invitation design too.
Another challenge was creating a set of PowerPoint slides that would be presented during the dinner event. We went through several rounds of mockups based on the invitation that were eventually rejected before the client presented their own base design. With a week left before the printed pieces based on this initial slide design were due, we took the base design and added some additional touches. The theme was Zero Hunger, so we used the “0” as the background design and relied on typography to work as the main focal point.
The slides had to meet specific color, font and other design parameters as it was going to be displayed on large screens. We knew the messaging had to be centered and we needed to limit the red and white colors. This left us with blue for the background, and we used circles and icons for the main art elements.
There was also a separate presentation on the Boost the Youth program. Several youth scholars from around the country were selected based on their projects to relieve hunger in their hometown. We needed to create a presentation that not only incorporated all 5 kids, but also include individual slides on each of their projects. The photos we were given were not high enough in quality or resolution to be used in the presentation, so we suggested the use of icons to illustrate each project’s theme. The icons were already being used throughout the dinner booklet and an earlier annual report for Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation that we also designed.
Posters and table tent cards mimicked the slide design. The name tags we originally designed had also mimicked the slides, but a technical issue in Word led the client to scrap the files and create their own design.
The booklet that contained the menu and program details also shared the same base design, but would also feature key guests, sponsors, and scholars who would be honored at the dinner. The back page needed to be a call to action for guests to donate money to a Boost the Youth program.
This was our biggest project of the year, and was one of the more challenging tasks due mostly to time constraints.
