Georgia is a beautiful state to visit. We’ve been to the mountains in the north and visited both Atlanta and Savannah.
If the southern region, Jekyll Island is a great little beach town with a lot of historic charm. Not far is Savannah, which lives up to the hype for being a beautiful city. The downtown district is a must, and we did the hop-on, hop-off tour when we first visited.
You can buy pecans, peaches, and peanuts anywhere in the state – you’ll be bombarded with signs off the highways. What I haven’t seen is the Cherokee rose, which is the state flower.
The last item on the cup worth mentioning is Amicalola Falls, which is near Dawsonville in northern Georgia. It’s not far from Helen, which is a quaint mountain village that looks like it belongs in Germany with their Bavarian buildings. We went tubing down the Chattahoochee River in Helen and visited a few nearby parks so we could see some waterfalls. The best one was Amicalola Falls, which is the end of the Appalachian Trail. We drove to the top of the falls and walked down these steep stairs to the bottom of the waterfall. Our friend drove back to the visitor’s center to pick up our group. The hike was amazing, and we even saw our first hummingbird.
